Solid-state drives, commonly known as SSDs, are getting increasingly popular today as they are considerably faster than traditional hard drives. A SSD drive significantly reduces boot times and offers super-fast data transfer rates. Such speeds are achieved owing to the fact that there are no moving parts in SSDs. This also makes it more durable against knocks and drops.
While there are a number of SSD manufacturers out there, Samsung is amongst the best! And, two of its best portable SSDs include the Samsung T5 and its newer version – the Samsung T7. In this post, you’ll discover all about these SSDs: Samsung SSD t5 vs t7 and how they compare based on performance, speed, price and more!

Samsung SSD T5 vs T7 – Review of Both
In this section, I’ll give you a detailed review of both Samsung SSDs – T5 vs T7.
Samsung T5 SSD
Featuring the Samsung V-NAND flash memory tech, the Samsung T5 Portable SSD offers blazing-fast transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s. It is shock-resistant and provides secure encryption which makes it one of the best portable SSDs on the market. This SSD is ideal for transferring large-sized data including 4K videos, high-resolution photos, and games.
What’s more, the compact and portable design of the Samsung T5 ensures that the SSD fits in the palm of your hand and easily slides into your pocket or purse to take work and entertainment on the go. It is available in four sizes: 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB
Samsung T7 SSD
The Samsung T7 is the newer SSD that delivers even better speeds with easy and reliable data storage for transferring large files. You get superb read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s. So, whether you’re storing critical business documents, games, or movies, the Samsung T7 Portable SSD gives you speed and durability in a palm-sized package.
Samsung SSD T5 vs T7 – PointWise Comparison
Now, let’s do a point-wise comparison between the Samsung T5 vs T7 to know more about the differences between the two Samsung SSDs.
While both SSDs look and feel quite similar when it comes to their design, the T5 is a bit smaller and lighter than the T7. The dimensions of T5 are 2.91 x 2.25 x 0.41 inches and it weighs 1.79 pounds. The T7, on the other hand, is taller but thinner at 3.34 x 2.24 x 0.31 inches. It weighs 2.04 pounds. Another difference is that there’s also a touch variant of the T7 that features a square-shaped fingerprint reader with a blue ‘Motion LED’ to indicate the status of the SSD. When it comes to the build and construction, the Samsung T5 comes with an aluminum shell paired with plastic panels on the side. The T7, on the other hand, features an all-aluminum finish.
Another difference is the color choices on these SSDs. The T5 is available in Alluring Blue (250GB and 500GB) and Deep Black (1TB and 2TB). The T7 comes in Indigo Blue, Titan Gray, and Metallic Red colors (500GB, 1TB, and 2TB). Lastly, the T7 Touch is available in Black and Silver (500GB, 1TB, and 2TB).
This one is the most obvious difference between the T5 and T7 portable SSDs. When it comes to how fast they can read and write data, the Samsung T7 is almost twice as fast as the older T5. The T7 offers up to 1,050MB/s read speeds and 1,000MB/s write speeds. On the other hand, the T5 is can reach only up to 505MB/s (read) and 480MB/s (write) speeds.
While both SSDs offer AES 256-bit encryption so that you can password protect them using Samsung’s Magician software, only the T7 Touch comes with a built-in fingerprint scanner. Therefore, the T7 Touch is the most secure of the lot.
Since the Samsung T7 is the newer and more advanced model, its price is usually higher than the T5. But, you may get lucky if there’s an offer on Amazon (as it’s available now) that gives it to you at a cheaper price. So, it’s advisable that you check the current prices of both models before making a buying decision.

Which SSD Should You Buy?
If you want to know which one is the best SSD of the lot, then I would say that the T7 Touch is the most secure as well as a highly advanced option. Now, considering the fact that the current selling price of the T5 and T7 is almost the same, I wouldn’t recommend getting the T5 as of now. As you know that the T7 is more advanced, you should definitely go for it.
When it comes to the T7 Touch, it’s much more expensive. Therefore, I would recommend the T7 Touch only to those who are highly concerned about data security and cannot afford any compromises.
